Sleep

Sleep is really important, especially for children, it is an opportunity to allow our minds and bodies to rest.

Open Minds have got a whole page devoted to sleep with different resources and information to support you with this.

How to get a good nights sleep has 11 tips for getting into a good sleep routine for you and your children

Neon the ninja is a story and resource book that has been written to support children who may be having nightmares or otherwise having difficulties getting to sleep and staying asleep. Click here for more information on the book.

Eating well

The NHS website has lots of good tips and ideas for trying to eat more healthily.

Free School Meals

If you think you may be eligible for free school meals then please apply as you will then be entitled to food vouchers. Please note that ALL children in EYFS and KS1 automatically get universal meals (and so a free lunch at school), however,  if you believe you meet the criteria you need to apply for free school meals separately. The form is available online

or an application can be submitted via their Contact Centre – 01422 288003

Healthy Futures Calderdale School Nursing Team

The team continue to run and provide health and wellbeing advice and support for school-aged children and their families. You can contact the team on 0303330 9974 or search “Healthy Futures Calderdale” on social media.

In particular, the teams are there to support families concerned about COVID-19. Take a look at these animations offering advice for families, and this short video message from the teams outlining the support on offer and how to contact them. (Please note these links take you to You tube and whilst the intended videos are appropriate what plays after may not be).

Healthy Start Free food vouchers and vitamin coupons

Families on certain benefits are entitled to free milk, fruit and vegetables with Healthy Start vouchers as well as free vitamins. You qualify for Healthy Start if you’re at least 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under four years old and you or your family get certain benefits. You also qualify if you are aged under 18 and pregnant, even if you don’t get any of the certain benefits. Find out how to apply for the Healthy Start vouchers and vitamin coupons by visiting the healthy start website or call the Healthy Start helpline on 0345 607 6823 and request an application form by post. Since the 6th April, you no longer need a health professional to sign the application form, so part B can be left blank.
