Promoting British Values
“Schools should promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” [The Prevent Strategy, 2011]
At St. Augustine’s we celebrate and promote British values in all of our lessons. In our daily collective worships we also reinforce these values. These values enable us to distinguish right from wrong; to learn about the institutions of our country; develop our self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence; and encourage respect for ourselves, others and democracy.
- We understand right from wrong
- We try to help other people
- We respect the culture and beliefs of others
- We treat everybody equally
- We know that we are all special
- We understand and respect the roles of people who help us
- We understand the consequences of our actions
- We listen to and respect other people’s opinions and values
