Design and technology is both a creative and practical subject. In KS1, children will begin to design and make different products using a variety of simple tools, as well as using a variety of materials (including textiles) to create. In Key Stage 1, they will be encouraged to think about how to make their ideas a reality and will be taught to use tools and techniques safely. These lessons also introduce your child to the concept of design, helping them to understand why some products are successful and others are not. They will be encouraged to consider the purpose of their products, and how they can use their design skills to make them more efficient.
